Standards of Professionalism of a
Concierge
The basic ethical principles for a concierge, seeks to encourage courteous,
honest, reputable, and reliable professional practice. The profession depends on
these attributes. Concierges should strive to reflect these characteristics as
an expression of dedicated concierge services.
The concierge should have pride in his or her professional endeavors. The
obligation to act professionally calls for higher motivation than the that
arising from concerns of civil liability or other penalty.. Being a concierge
carries a significant responsibility to others and all concierge services should
reflect this recognition. Each concierge should make every effort to ensure that
his or her services are used properly.
A Concierge should neither practive nor permit discrimination on the basis of
race, color, sex, age, or national origin.
A concierge should not
condone, engagein, or defend illegal conduct or practices.
Les Clefs d’Or
members and non-members should be treated on a reasonable, non discriminatory
basis. Les Clefs d’Or members should not disparage non-members or others. New
members should be encouraged.
A concierge should conduct all matters in a
professional, polite, courteous and helpful manner to guest, fellow workers, and
colleagues; a concierge should not be defiant, rude or discourteous to
others.
Professional conduct demands timely and courteous response to all
correspondence, inquiries, and phone calls, as well as prompt payment in full of
all transactions handled by the concierge. Commitments to colleagues and others
should be honored; if circumstances prevent honoring previous commitments, it is
courteous to notify the other person immediately.
Personal problems
should not interfere with the professional performance of a concierge.
Accordingly, the concierge should refrain from undertaking any activity in which
a conflict is likely to lead to inadequate performance or harm to an hotelier,
guest, or colleague.
A concierge should not misuse his or her position or
authority.
A concierge should not demand goods, services, or money as
compensation for his or compensation for his or her personal gain. A concierge
should exercise objective, independent judgment in the evaluation and
recommendation of goods and services.
We should always keep in mind the
purpose of our positions is to serve our guest and the purpose of our membership
is to serve each other through friendship.
